Saudi Arabia – Reforming insurers’ objectives supports health care
Saturday, 04 02 2016, Category: Health, Country: Saudi Arabia
The government has been studying for a long time the issue of providing health insurance coverage to citizens. Additionally, it is tackling the low level of health care which is below expectations given the large expenditures on this sector and the aspirations of the citizen in terms of the services offered in both the public and private sectors. All the ministers that assumed the role of minister of health were not successful in bringing about tangible direct change to the citizen, which is a dilemma to decision makers. With the increasing costs of the this key sector, the issues of health insurance for all citizens, privatization, and primary health care have been increasingly discussed. However, despite these increasing efforts, implementation is still difficult.
Solutions are available at the table, but the system on which the health care system is built cannot integrate these solutions. Therefore, any attempt to improve the quality of health care in the KSA should be preceded by the restructuring both the system and the sector.
