Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – Cooperation between insurers and fish farming projects

Undersecretary of Saudi Agriculture Ministry responsible about fish farming Mr. Jaber al-Shahri said that fish farming is a new field for insurance companies so the ministry tries to strengthen cooperation between insurance companies and investors in the fish farming field as well as introducing this industry to insurers and informing investors about the added value of insurance.
Al-Shahri indicated that the ministry of agriculture aims at raising the production of fish products in the kingdom from 100 thousand tons annually to 1 million tons during the next 16 years, adding that fish farming projects are large in the kingdom, with good budgets and there are no small projects which threaten this industry according to “Al Riyadh” newspaper.
He also clarified that the local market is free from fish products not suitable for human consumption. And there is coordination between the ministry of agriculture, the ministry of commerce and industry, the Saudi Food & Drug Authority supervising imported fish from outside the kingdom in order to maintain the safety of the consumer.
