Saudi Arabia: Minister of Health reviews the SHIB project

The Minister of Health and Chairman of the Cooperative Health Insurance Council, Mr Khalid Bin Abdulaziz Al-Faleh chaired yesterday the meeting No. 101 of the Council, in the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Riyadh, where they discussed many topics on the agenda concerning the implementation of health insurance for private sector’s workers.
Then, the Secretary-General Mohammed Bin Suleiman Al Hussein reviewed the topics on the agenda, giving a brief report on the performance of the Council’s General Secretariat, what have been achieved during the past period and the most prominent developments in the cooperative health insurance sector. The Council also discussed the developments related to the Saudi Health Insurance Bus project (SHIB) where Mr. Al Hussein explained that the project is in its final implementation stages.
The project passed through several stages which are: the first phase which includes the development of the basic principles and technical standards necessary to ensure the implementation of the project with high efficiency through the use of best methodologies and technologies available, and the coordination with concerned authorities and parties; the second phase related to the study of offers where a group of experts and specialists in different areas such as institutional structure design, infrastructure establishment, health insurance, and e-health, studied the offers based on technical standards to ensure the effective implementation of this important project, which will reflect positively on the future of the health insurance market in the country.
