Saudi Arabia to discuss mandatory health insurance for visa applicants

The Secretary-General of the Council of Cooperative Health Insurance Mohammed Hussein revealed that the number of visitors to the kingdom who will have to adhere to a compulsory health insurance is nearly 1.6 million visitors; except for the pilgrims to the sanctified house of Allah, Umrah pilgrims, diplomats, visitors of international diplomatic organizations, and state guests. This came during the opening of a dedicated workshop for health insurance companies licensed to sell electronically at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Council in Riyadh in the presence of 30 technical specialists representing 7 licensed health insurance companies.
The workshop discussed the technical requirements for the electronic connection in preparation for the application of the mandatory health insurance to visa applicants as well as their companions in accordance with the Cabinet’s decision No. (180). The workshop will also provide a comprehensive definition for the " visit’s Health insurance policy " and the role of the Cooperative Health Insurance Council in the insurance industry; in addition to the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the application of this new compulsory insurance for visitors. Hussein also pointed out that the application of this insurance will be due starting the last quarter of 2015.
