Increasing the competitiveness of the insurance sector is among the main objectives of the recent economic reforms in Tunisia. The Tunisian government is confident that the sector has the potential to export its services to other regions of Africa, according to the Tunisian Finance Minister, Salim Shaker.
Shaker said that the Tunisian insurance industry has a promising future despite facing some difficulties in the motor field, which urged insurance companies to take advantage of other sectors such as life insurance and pensions. Even though pension programs face significant challenges, there are great opportunities for insurance companies to benefit from this field in the future. He added that insurance companies must look beyond traditional insurance lines for the continued growth of the sector and its contribution to the national economy. He also said that there is still a long way to go for insurance companies to boost the national average of 1.9%, compared with the global average of 7%.
