Qatar - A mistake to open the door to private health insurance

The Supreme Council of Health resolved, the controversy that recently took place between the medical centers and insurance companies on the main service of health insurance to citizens on medical services and to citizens provided by government insurance «Seha» or the additional one that are not covered, such as dental and eye tests, and issued a circular distributed copies of it in the local newspapers to extend allowing private insurance companies to cover basic health services to citizens as well as the National Health Insurance Company until the end of April 2016, stressing that the extension includes only basic health services.
A number of medical centers are concerned that the Supreme Council of Health allowing health private insurance companies to provide additional treatment services area will raise medical insurance value, which drives a number of the private sector companies to avert the cost and the possibility of raising the cost, while the others especially conveyed to «Arabs newspaer» a concern was that this circular makes medical centers lose the right in providing the basic treatment of citizens which will be provided instead by private insurers, and questioned whether the medical centers that meet the terms of the government health insurance will get it after the expiry of the eight-month period, or that the different complexities will prevent a large number of different medical centers to participate in the government insurance services to the citizens.
