UAE - Health insurance 'misuse' rates drop

Officials said that the rates of "misuse" or over-provision of medical services are declining with the introduction of the electronic linkage system, expecting the health insurance premiums in the local market to exceed the limit of 20 billion dirhams by the end of this year.
Officials said that the rate of "abuse" or excessive provision of medical services, is declining with the implementation of the electronic linkage system, expecting that the premiums on health insurance in the domestic market of 20 billion dirhams, by the end of this year.
The implementation of compulsory health insurance for residents of Abu Dhabi and Dubai has contributed to the diversification of insurance coverage and the provision of excellent medical services to insurance operators, they said at the 5th annual health insurance conference in Dubai.
Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansoori, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Insurance Authority, said: "The UAE insurance market is the largest in terms of level and organization in the Arab world, both in terms of size of premiums, or in terms of high underwriting capacity and diversified insurance fields."
