Egypt – Expert requests “Aman” certificate for fishermen
Friday, 06 01 2018, Category: Insurance and Reinsurance, Country: Egypt
Mr. Fouzi Kandil, an insurance expert said that it is necessary to provide the “Aman” certificate to fishermen against an annual premium of EGP 60 through direct insurance companies without going back to banks that impose an account of EGP 500 to issue the cover. This makes insurance unaffordable for fishermen who cannot secure this amount as they have a low income and they considered to be seasonal workers. Therefore, large companies do not accept to pay fees to issue contracts to this category.
Moreover, Mr. Kandil said in statements to “Youm7” that there are more than 2 million Egyptian fishermen below the poverty line who do not have any insurance cover against death or disability noting that the risks of their profession is high.
