RIYADH: The Ministry of Health plans to extend the government cooperative health insurance to citizens shortly, according to a statement in the Shoura Council during a discussion on the ministry’s report.
The council members, however, observed that the ministry’s achievements were below expectations especially in the mental health sector. The members also noted that the ministry faced financial difficulties and other obstacles including delay in acquiring land for its projects and in the commissioning of new hospitals, despite the severe pressure on the existing hospitals in large cities, Al-Madinah reported on Wednesday.
The Health Committee of the Shoura Council stressed in the report the need for speedy establishment of mental health hospitals and de-addiction clinics, and commissioning of hospital projects that have been completed besides providing the required legislative and judicial structure for the implementation of the insurance scheme.
