Recent major loss events—Atlantic hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, along with the Mexican earthquakes—represent the first big test for the alternative capital sector, Mike Van Slooten, head of market analytics at Aon Benfield, told Baden-Baden Today.
“There has been a lot of growth in this area since the financial crisis and it has changed the way the market is structured,” Van Slooten said.
“The length of time that has elapsed since the last major losses in the US had clients questioning how the market was likely to respond when the next big events occurred.”
