Saudi Arabia – Health insurance covers 38% of population

Mr. Yasser Al-Maarik, spokesman of the Council of Cooperative Health Insurance (CCHI) revealed that health insurance covers 38 percent of the KSA population indicating that the number of insureds increased by 22.5% during the past two years reaching 12,259,615 insured compared to 10 million persons in year 2015.
Additionally, Mr. Al-Maarik said that the council encourages the entry of international health insurers into the Saudi market noting that the number of insurers reached 27 companies compared to 26 on year ago.
Moreover, Mr. Al-Maarik confirmed that a specialized committee is studying the impact of including some obesity cases in the health insurance market. This committee is studying the medical developments of all the aspects of obesity in detail. He indicated that the council of cooperative health insurance reviews the executive law of the system and the model policy every four years in order to the meet the changing health insurance needs in the Kingdom.
