Morocco – Results of insurance mediation authority
Wednesday, 05 31 2017, Category: Insurance and Reinsurance, Country: Morocco
The insurance mediator announced the results of its first year of mediation in year 2016 as the mediation authority managed by Mr. Mohamed Saidi received approximately 94 requests for mediation between the insured and insurance companies most of which were received in the second half of year 2016. Among these cases, only one third met the requirements needed by the insurance mediator. This led to the treatment of 32 files only.
These requests concern the refusal of risks that should be covered by insurance companies as well as the refusal of the assessment of losses and damages. In only nine cases out of twenty, the insurance mediation led to an appropriate solution in favor of the party that requested the settlement.
Since January 2016, any insured unsatisfied about the decision of an insurance company can revert to the insurance mediation authority. It was launched by a decision of the Directorate of Insurance and Social Welfare (DAPS) and Moroccan insurance companies and it is a specialized form to solve conflicts that emanate from insurance contracts signed between individuals and insurance companies.
