UAE – No insurance for buildings without prevention

Lt. General H.H Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the United Arab Emirates's minister of interior and deputy prime minister issued the ministerial decision No (213) of year 2017 amending the executive law of the council of ministers No (24) of year 2012 related to the services of the civil defence in the country issued under the ministerial decision No (505) of year 2012.
Moreover, the decision compels insurance and reinsurance companies operating in the country not to insure any building or facility and not to issue any insurance policy unless the building obtained a valid safety and prevention certificate issued by the General Civil Defense Directorate. Furthermore, copies of the insurance policies covering buildings and facilities have to be sent to the General Civil Defense Directorate for control purposes within one week of the issuance of the insurance contract. Additionally, a half-yearly report about insured buildings and facilities have to be sent to the Civil Defense Directorate of each Emirate. This decision will be published in the official gazette and become effective at the publication date.
