Many premature newborn children need to stay in an incubator until their health improves. However, this can be costly for their families who might need to go into debt even though they do have insurance coverage. The families of “pre-term infants” said that it is difficult for them to settle the costs of treatment, which insurance companies refuse to cover. Therefore, they need to take loans or revert to charities. Additionally, they called upon insurers no to “exclude preterm infants from insurance coverage”.
Furthermore the inpatient treatment cost of a quintuplet (3 boys and 2 girls) for a period of two months in the intensive preterm infant care unit in one of the hospitals reached 1 million and 400 thousand AED despite the fact that one of the infants lost his life two days after birth.
