Algeria – Insurance premiums at 134 billion Dinars in 2016

The total premiums of the insurance sector in Algeria exceeded 133.9 billion Dinars (1.2 billion USD) by year-end 2016 as revealed on Thursday by both Abdelhakim Benbouabdellah, Secretary, National Insurance Council and Mr. Brahim Djamel Kassali, President, Algerian Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies during a joint press conference.
According to presented results, the insurance sector achieved a growth rate of 2% during year 2016 as the personal lines achieved a strong growth whereas the property insurance was relatively stable. The property and casualty premiums reached 119.4 billion Dinars noting that motor insurance premiums reached 63.3 billion Dinars with a 54.6 share of property & casualty insurance with a negative growth of 1.4%.
