Egypt – Health insurance Law threatens portfolios of insurers

The government transferred the national comprehensive insurance law to the Egyptian Council of State for review in anticipation of its transfer to the Egyptian parliamnent.
Moreover, Mr. Saeed Bayoumi president of the life insurance committee at the Insurance Federation of Egypt expects the comprehensive national health insurance law to have an impact generally on the portfolios of insurance companies, indicating that the full implementation of such a law will take many years and up to 15 years in order to meet the targeted goals.
Additionally, Mr. Bayoumi indicated that the Insurance Federation of Egypt addressed the ministry of health in order to negotiate some aspects of the national health insurance law. However, the Insurance Federation did not receive any response from the ministry of health in this regard.
