Qatar – Liquidation of national health insurer “Seha”

The national health insurance company “Seha” has been liquidated according to news reported by “Lusail” news under the decision of the general extraordinary general assembly held on February 5th.
The general assembly appointed a legal accountant in order to execute the liquidation where it requested from all creditors to submit their claims along with the related proofs within a maximum date of 75 days from the date of announcement of the liquidation under article No 312 of law No 11 of year 2015. The previous health insurance system known as “Seha” through the national health insurance company was suspended starting from 31 December 2015 based on the decision of the council of ministers.
The projections indicate that the government paid approximately QR 1.3 billion to finance health care for around 1 million patients since the health insurance system “Seha” was implemented.
