Dr. Ali Al Sayed, Director of the Pharmaceutical Services Department at the Dubai Health Authority said the size of the demand of pharmaceutical products in both the public and private sectors will increase by 100% during the current year after the implementation of the compulsory health insurance law on citizens and residents. He indicated that a large number of expatriates used to secure their medicines in their home country due to price differences. However, with compulsory insurance the prices of medicines will be lower than other countries.
He also noted according to “Al Bayan” that the authority introduced 67 types of medicines, have been registered at the ministry of health and they cover new treatments, chronic diseases, the respiratory system as well as new medicines for different types of cancers. These medicines are not available at other health entities since their prices are high, so they are imported according to the requests of physicians in order to satisfy citizens because their health is of utmost importance.
