Jordan – JOD 583 million insurance sector premiums

The aggregate results of the Jordanian insurance market revealed the numbers of 24 insurance companies by the end of last year. The total written premium growth achieved was 5.8% compared to last year. Premiums reached JOD 582.9 million in 2016 compared to JOD 551 million by year 2015. According to the Jordan Insurance Federation on Monday the detailed performance indicators of insurance companies indicate the non-life premiums reached JOD 513 million with a 5% growth compared to year 2015. Moreover, life insurance premiums reached JOD 70.1 million with a 14.6% growth.
Five insurance lines achieved a growth rate in premiums. Motor insurance premiums reached JOD 225.8 million with a 1.5% growth and this line is the most important as it represents 38.7% of the market. The second line is medical insurance with premiums of JOD 171.5 million with 1.11% growth and a share of 29.4%. The third line is fire insurance with premiums of JOD 76.1 million and a growth of 7.2% representing 13.1% of total premiums.
