The Central Bank of Bahrain announced yesterday that the insurance sector achieved steady results in year 2015. About the insurance market’s performance, the contribution of general insurance (including health insurance) reached approximately 80% of total premiums/contributions in year 2015.
Health insurance and motor insurance achieved growth rates of 11% and 4% respectively during year 2015. The share of life insurance (including long term insurance) reached 20% of total premiums/contributions of the insurance market in year 2015.
The main reason for the increase in total premiums/contributions was the increase of health insurance premiums form BD 47.89 million in year 2014 to BD 53.39 million in year 2015, which represents an 11% growth rate noting that health insurance represented a 20% share of the Bahraini insurance market in year 2015.
