Saudi Arabia – Implementation of the 2nd phase of unified policy

The Council of Cooperative Health Insurance started yesterday the second phase of the unified insurance policy for employers that have at least 50 employees according to the timetable set. It will be compulsory for the employer to implement a unified health insurance policy covering all the employees and their families as specified by the cooperative health insurance system.
Mr. Yasser Al-Ma'arek the official spokesman of the council of cooperative health insurance said that this phase will last for three months and complements the previous phase in a quarterly plan. He indicated that the council started to implement since last July a unified insurance policy over four phases. The first phase started on the 10th of July 2016 and targeted companies with more than 100 employees whereas the second phase targets companies that have between 50 and 99 employees. This will be followed by the third phase starting on the 10th of January next year addressing companies that have between 25 and 49 employees.
Finally, he added that the last phase will start on April 10th, 2017 and will address companies that have less than 25 employees.
