Saudi Arabia – Complaints against insurers increase by 50%

The Council of Cooperative Health Insurance revealed that the number of complaints against insurance companies and which were received by the council increased by 50.22% compared to the previous year. Total number of complaints reached 2381 last year compared to 1585 complaints in the previous year 2014. The city of Riyadh had the largest share of these complaints with 46.1% of complaints.
Mr. Mohammed Bin Salman Al-Hussein the Secretary-General of the Council of Cooperative Health Insurance denied that the increase in the number of complaints is related to a problem in the performance of insurance companies and health service providers. He said instead that the main cause of the increase is the awareness of the insureds about their rights.
