Saudi Arabia – Insurers tackle obesity and smoking

A study conducted by the Council of Cooperative Health Insurance on “health prevention and the implications of its implementation by insurance companies” revealed that a number of health insurance companies requested to include “smoking and obesity” among the factors used to determine insurance prices and introduce as well medical tests of the insured before underwriting an insurance policy.
The Council of Cooperative Health Insurance also said in a report mentioned by “Al Watan” that the study it conducted last year (2015) considered including preventive health within the health benefits covered by a health insurance policy as one of the initiatives adopted by the council in order to promote the social responsibility concept.
