Kuwait – Insurance of retirees covers 90% only
Thursday, 08 18 2016, Category: Insurance and Reinsurance, Country: Kuwait
It is still too early to judge the project of “Health Insurance for Retirees”. There are indeed positive and negative remarks on the subject. However, the law allows the minister of health to add any new category later on. Additionally, the ministry will review its experience in order to add more categories. This means simply that the benefits announced will not be sufficient. The intuitive question that the retiree will ask after the insurance contract was signed is the following: Who will be covered by insurance? We say tertiary medical services cannot be covered as the cost is high and this is well knows since the seventies until health insurance was proposed. Therefore, it covers less than 10% of patients.
Those covered by primary care exceed 70% of patients i.e. primary care centers, clinics. Secondary services cover 20% of patients at specialized health centers, public hospitals and some specialized hospitals.
I think there is a consensus among specialists that insurance covers only 90% of cases.
