A report mentioned that Dubai has a modern system for claims and indemnifications, which allowed it to control fraudulent cases in the health insurance sector. Therefore, fraudulent cases did not exceed 5% of claims, which is the lowest percentage in the region.
A report published by the “Middle East Insurance Review” said that the fraud issue in health insurance is a global phenomenon and the GCC region is not an exception especially when compulsory health insurance plans started raising the health insurance premium and became the largest share of the revenues of insurance companies. This changed the landscape of the sector but also led to additional problems in the health insurance system.
The report clarified that it is difficult to identify fraudulent cases in health insurance although they represent just 5% of cases in Dubai compared to 15% of cases in Saudi Arabia.
