UAE – AED 3.68 billion unnecessary medical services

The Emirates Insurance Association said that that the abuse and unnecessary use of health insurance services in the local market cost approximately one billion US dollars (AED 3.68 billion). It stressed during the health insurance conference which ended yesterday in Dubai that it is very important to continue searching for mechanisms which can decrease the abuse of medical insurance services in collaboration with supervisory authorities.
Moreover, the ministry of health said that spending on health care in the local market increased by 8% during the past year in order to reach AED 53.8 billion indicating that it is expected to increase to AED 70.6 billion in year 2019 with a 7.9% annual growth. It noted that the value of medicines in the UAE increased to AED 10.3 billion during year 2015 with a 9.1% growth expecting that it will increase to AED 13.9 billion in year 2019.
