UAE – Restrictions on health insurance abuse

Managers and employees of the insurance sector said that local insurance companies imposed “deductible percentages” during the renewals of most health insurance contracts, indicating that these restrictions limit the abuse in using the policy. This follows the demands of employers that try to decrease the health care expenditures related to their employees.
They confirmed to “Emarat Alyoum” that imposing “deductible percentages” pushes the insured to use lower cost medical centers and represents an incentive for him not to abuse his insurance contact.
According to the annual report of the Insurance Authority which monitors the performance of the local insurance market, the health insurance incurred claims exceeded 80% of total written premiums. We have to add also administrative and operating expenses as well as broker commissions to this percentage.
