Qatar – Tender to choose insurers to provide coverage for citizens

HE Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani headed the ordinary meeting of the council lately in its headquarters at the Emiri Diwan.
After the meeting HE Ahmad bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs stated the following: the council examined the topics listed in the agenda.
The Council of Ministers examined the proposals of the Supreme Council of Health regarding the basic package of health benefits offered to citizens and decided to approve the establishment of a committee headed by the ministry of finance which will include members from government entities. This committee will impose the required conditions in order to implement the new health insurance system through private companies and targeting Qatari citizens. The committee will also be responsible about examining insurance companies in light of the tender offered to these companies. A process will be launched to choose the private insurance companies that will offer the required services according to the best offer and will consequently be recommended to the council of ministers.
