Qatar – Consultative Assembly approves health insurance recommendations

The Consultative Assembly approved the recommendations of the public service and facilities’ committee about the request to open a general discussion on the cost of health insurance. The report said that “in the 15 June 2015 session, the Consultative Assembly requested a general discussion by the public service and facilities’ committee in order to study this issue and present a report on it to the assembly. The committee held 3 meeting dated 16, 22 and 25 June in order to study the request. The second meeting was attended by H.E Mr. Abdulla bin Khalid Al-Qahtani, Minister of Health, General Secretary of the Supreme Council of Health, and Dr. Faleh Hussein, Assistant Secretary General for Policy Affairs of the Supreme Council of Health.
The report presented the views of the Supreme Council of Health on the request for discussion. It mentioned that that the numbers communicated by the newspapers created a negative feedback give the amounts mentioned i.e. 10 billion Qatari Riyal abusing public funds inefficiently. It showed that the amount spent on Hospital fees was 700 million Qatari Riyal only, and that the company which reports millions of Qatari Riyals has a budget of 91 million Qatari Riyal including equipment, confirming that the number of its employees was 45 employees.
