The Supreme Council of Health granted insurance companies operating in Qatar as well as health care service providers additional time to comply with regulations with a 30 April 2016 deadline with respect to any contracts, health insurance policies covering Qatari citizens. This represents a “grace period” of one full year in order to avoid the double coverage of basic health services for Qatari citizens. A similar decision was issued in April 2014 which included a grace period which extended to 30 April 2015.
The council issued a second memorandum which recommended additional time for insurance companies and health service providers to comply with regulations related to health insurance contracts and policies in line with the launch of the second phase of the health insurance system “Seha” which will cover all male and female Qatari citizens and which will ban the double coverage of basic health services.
