2.5 million insured Saudis do not have effective coverage

The Cooperative Health Insurance Council revealed that 2.5 million Saudis working in the private sector are covered by the Health Insurance System but they do not obtain coverage since companies are manipulating policies.
According to the “Al Riyadh” newspaper, the secretary general of the Cooperative Health Insurance Council Mr. Mohammad Al Hussain said during a debate in the 3rd Saudi Insurance Symposium which concluded its activities that there is a plan at the Health Insurance Council to eliminate fake insurance meant to renew the residency permit by July 2015.
He also indicated that there are many initiatives to enforce compulsory insurance on all Saudis working in the private sector and their families, noting that 200,000 children of Saudi mothers and Non-Saudi husbands are covered by health insurance. He also expected the size of the insurance sector to reach SAR 60 billion by year 2020.
