UAE – Insurers intentionally avoid compensation
Wednesday, 10 21 2015, Category: Insurance and Reinsurance, Country: U.A.E
Insurance companies intentionally refuse to cover the medicines of the patients that fall under the covered benefits of insurance contracts for periods exceeding three hours arguing that they cannot process an overflow of claims or that the electronic system failed. These maneuvers are intended to force the insureds to pay themselves the requested amount in cash.
Waiting periods at the pharmacies of private hospitals in Abu Dhabi range between 10 to 180 minutes given the congestion of pharmacies and the need to obtain the authorization of insurance companies for medicines. Usually the repeated refusal to cover the benefits included in the insurance contract are ultimately covered but after the patient is exhausted and compelled to pay for the medicines out of pocket.
