A number of teachers considered the World Teachers’ Day as an occasion to convey their concerns to the ministry in order to find solutions to their problems. They indicated that their main demands cover their employment rights, recognizing their years of service, the appreciation of their work, and regaining prestige in society.
The leader of the Saudi Teachers Network Mr. Abdullah al Shareef clarified that teachers have demands that they hope will be met in practice in order for them to continue their contribution to building society and the country within supportive and comfortable conditions. The most important element is that teachers gain respect and appreciation in order for them to regain trust and reinforce their role in educating the new generation. To that end they should regain their rights such as obtaining the employment grade related to years of service in order not to lose a part of their monthly salary which in some cases reached 30%, settling the financial differences retroactively and calculating the years of service according to this demand.
The demands also included the provision of health insurance to the teacher and his family, training and developing the skills of the teacher on a continuous basis and offering him the opportunity to continue his education and obtaining higher education.
